Your horse should be on an accurate feeding schedule.

You should have a base weight for your horse. ..

I have yet to see feeding directions that say: "Feed 1 scoop for every 1,000-pounds of body weight". Feeding directions may read: "Feed 0.50 to 1.0 pound for every 100 pounds of body weight per day."

The weight of your horse is the basic guide to calculating balanced nutrition.  It is the  most important factor for sound health and good performance.

Many new, strong  expensive drugs must be administered on the basis of the animal's body weight.  To avoid the danger and waste of overdosing and the ineffectiveness of underdosing, have your horse weighed.

The use of weighing platforms is the only true means of obtaining a horse’s accurate weight.

Don't let your horse get too fat or too thin.  Have your horse weighed at different ages, seasons of the year.  The record will be an important health guide.

A well-nourished
horse will consume about 2 percent of its body weight per day on a dryweight basis. Thus, a 1,000-pound horse will require approximately 20 pounds of forage or feed per day, or almost 4 tons of dry matter yearly per horse.
Even if you don't have any concerns it does no harm to weigh him regularly and make a note of any fluctuations.
Equine scales are expensive and not everyone has access to one, so we provide the service for you ..You dont have to spend thousand of dollars.
Feed requirements are based on body weight and activity, so both young and old horses should be weighed to keep current on their rate of gain or loss.
A horse weighing the proper amount should NOT have ribs showing.
Accurate electronic weighing of larger animals removes the guesswork for administration of feed and medicine.
Even a small weight change over a short period can indicate a problem before it is full blown.
Even a small weight change over a short period can indicate a problem before it is full blown.
If your horse is being weighed on a regular basis, you will be able to tell if there's a problem relatively quickly. If you can weigh your horse on a regular basis, you are going to have a very much better chance of spotting anything that goes wrong which, in an extreme case, could save your horse’s life. Most good stables will arrange for you to have your horse weighed.

A equine scale is far more accurate and should be used instead of a tape if available.

We make it very affordable..

Worming

You must be careful to apply the recommended dose of horse wormer with each session, because parasites possess the ability to build a resistance towards agents designed to kill them when the agents are not applied in doses strong enough to kill the parasites outright. This is why it is also important to rotate the various types of horse wormers – not only does it increase the spectrum of targeted parasites, it makes it difficult for parasites to build up any sort of resistance or immunity.

Weather Considerations and Feed

Additional feed is essential for maintaining body weight in cold weather, especially if rain and wind are involved. For each 10 degrees F below 32 F, two pounds of additional hay above what is normally fed is needed to maintain body weight. Add wind and rain, and requirements increase by as much as 15 additional pounds. Along with extra hay, you can bump up the calories with fat supplements, such as a top dressing of 1/2 to 2 cups of corn oil daily.
